Shantmanu, a state government official, said civilians living in a nearby village were evacuated.
The officer said the attackers crossed over from Pakistani territory, but there was no confirmation of that. Dozens of rebel groups have been fighting Indian rule since 1989. Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan.
