ABUJA, Nigeria –  Organizers say parents of some of the 219 schoolgirls held captive by Boko Haram extremists are refusing to meet Nigeria’s president.

President Goodluck Jonathan was to hold a “summit” on Tuesday with 15 of the parents and some of the girls who had escaped.

People who helped organize the meeting said the parents called it off. They insisted on anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the press.

Rotimi Olawale, a spokeswoman for the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, said the escapees also are refusing to meet the president.

Jonathan has not met with the parents since the April 15 mass abduction, causing some to say he is insensitive.

On Monday Jonathan promised Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai that he would meet the parents. Malala said that was the parents’ wish.
