TUNIS, Tunisia – Tunisia’s Defense Ministry says militants in the eastern mountains have staged two simultaneous attacks on army posts, leaving at least three dead.
The official TAP news agency reported Thursday the attackers targeted soldiers on Mount Chaambi on the Algerian border as they were holding their sundown feast Wednesday night as part of the Ramadan Muslim holy month.

The death toll was unclear. Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Maj. Lamjed Hammami said two soldiers and one attacker were killed. TAP reported five soldiers killed. Several wounded were also reported.
The Okba Ibn Nafaa brigade claimed responsibility for the attacks on its Facebook page, calling Tunisian soldiers “tyrants.” The group has claimed past attacks around Mount Chaambi, where Tunisian security forces are seeking to root out extremists linked to al-Qaida’s North African arm.
