Victor Valdes was a surprise omission as Manchester United named their 26-man squad for their pre-season tour of America.
The 33-year-old, who only joined United six months ago, is the high-profile exclusion from Louis van Gaal’s squad, which included goalkeepers Sam Johnstone and Anders Lindegaard, as well as Real Madrid target David de Gea, despite the Spaniard’s future continuing to rumble on.
The news will come as a blow to Valdes, with his agent Gines Carvajal insisting that the former Barcelona goalkeeper doesn’t want to leave Old Trafford this summer, and instead wants to see out the remaining year of his contract while fighting for a first-team place.

However, the recent news casts doubts over whether Valdes will remain at United for the 2015-16 campaign, despite uncertainties over De Gea’s long-term future. However, Sportsmail understands that Real are unwilling to meet the Red Devils’ asking price for the Spain goalkeeper currently.
Rafael was another notable exclusion from Van Gaal’s squad for the tour, which did include new signings Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
United begin the defence of the International Champions Cup on Friday when they face Mexican outfit Club America, before further games against MLS side San Jose Earthquakes, Spanish giants Barcelona, and then finishing off against Paris Saint-Germain on July 29.
Members of the squad were picturing arriving at Manchester Airport on Monday afternoon ahead of their flight, with club captain Wayne Rooney seen greeting new signing Schweinsteiger.
Van Gaal was clearly in good spirits after the club’s recent impressive business in the transfer window, as he was greeted by fans at the airport with one in particular taking a shine to the Dutchman, giving him a big hug in the process.
The former Bayern Munich midfielder, as well as Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin were all pictured at the airport in their United club suits – something which had been seen earlier in the day thanks to the club’s official tailor.

Elsewhere, United duo Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria were not named in the squad for the tour, owing to their participation in the recent Copa America tournament.
