Justin Gatlin tried his best but in the end he could do nothing to stop Usain Bolt coasting to the World Championships gold medal in the 200 metres.
In fact, it would not be unfair to say there was more incident after the race to worry Bolt as he convincingly completed the sprint double over his arch rival.
In the space of a few minutes while taking part in his lap of honour, an over-zealous fan jumped over a barrier to try to get a picture with Bolt. Security staff gave chase and tackled the culprit to the ground, before bundling him off the track and down a tunnel.

Bolt then celebrated his victory on the track and was closely followed by a cameraman who was riding on an electric Segway

MEN’S 200M FINAL STANDINGS
1. Usain Bolt – 19.55sec
2. Justin Gatlin – 19.74sec
3. Anaso Jobodwana – 19.87sec
5. Zharnel Hughes – 20.02sec
Then another security guard tried to run off with Bolt’s spikes!
All this came just after he had been knocked off his feet by a TV cameraman who lost control of the Segway he was ‘driving’.
Immediately after the race Bolt took off his spikes and started on his lap of honour draped in a Jamaican flag. He explained: ‘I gave one of the guys who were following me my spikes to hold when I started to do my interviews and when I turned round he was gone, so I was shouting “Bring my spikes back”. I didn’t know where he was going.’

USAIN BOLT’S PERFECT 10

In a jovial press conference beneath the Bird’s Nest, Bolt joked the cameraman who crashed into him may have been paid by ex-doper Gatlin, beaten into the silver medal position for a second time in one week.
A barefoot Bolt was facing the stands saluting fans when the TV cameraman lost control of the motorised board he was riding and hit the sprinter from behind.
Bolt fell backwards on to the cameraman but escaped serious injury. ‘I don’t have my legs insured but I might think about it after that,’ he said. ‘He took the worst of it so I checked he was OK and he said sorry as much as he could. He may have hit his head. I have a few cuts but I’m fine.’
Bolt’s 100m gold on Sunday was billed as a victory for the sport because it prevented a twice-convicted drugs cheat winning athletics flagship event — but his 200m win in 19.55sec was the more impressive performance.
It was the quickest he had run since winning at London 2012 and the 10th fastest time in history to secure his 10th World Championships gold. Bolt looked more at ease at the start than he had for the 100m, doing his usual preening and getting out of the blocks well.He and Gatlin were level with 80m to go but Bolt executed his trademark kick to accelerate clear, with Gatlin finishing in 19.74sec. Anaso Jobodwana, 23, took bronze in 19.87sec, a South African record.
Bolt jogged through the line beating his clenched fists against his chest. ‘It means a lot,’ he said. ‘Leading up to the 200m, I heard Justin Gatlin saying that he has something special for the 200m. I was like, “What?”
‘I take the 200m a lot more serious than the 100m. So when somebody is going to talk that they are going to beat me, that is the only reason I really celebrate.’
Bolt then dealt a blow to the organisers of the London 2017 World Championships by suggesting he was only ‘50/50’ to attend, having previously suggested he would carry on after the Olympics in Rio.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEDALS

‘I really want to run at London,’ he said, ‘But I think the sport is not as fun as it used to be. It’s more taxing. My sponsors want me to go one more year but my coach [Glenn Mills] said, “Listen, if you’re not going to be serious about going to London then you shouldn’t do it”.
‘It’s all about how I feel after Rio, if I feel I can put my body through one more year and if I’m going to be focused and determined enough.’
Britain’s Zharnel Hughes, who recently switched allegiance from the tiny Caribbean island of Anguilla, was fifth in 20.02sec.
‘This is all good experience,’ he said. ‘I came out, I gave it my best. I felt something in my back. That is why I wasn’t able to give it the way I wanted to. I finish (the season) injury-free. I give God thanks for the experience I have had.’
Asked if he belonged in this elite company, Hughes — who trains alongside Bolt at Racer’s Track Club in Jamaica — said: ‘Definitely, I will get back. Trust me. Usain Bolt is a legend. I doubted him a bit, but Bolt is phenomenal.’
