PETE JENSON: David Moyes has won the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi with Real Sociedad buying their former player back for £17million less than they sold him for two years ago.
Real Madrid bought the now 25-year-old former Spain Under 21 international for 39m euros (£28.5m) in July 2013 but after he failed to make the grade at the Santiago Bernabeu they have agreed to send him back for just 16m euros (£11.7m).
The Basque club were struggling to raise the asking price but Madrid have allowed them to take the player on loan now with an obligation to buy him at the end of the season.

SIMON JONES: Chelsea will continue to press for Paul Pogba after seeing a £54million for the towering French midfielder rejected by Juventus last week.
Despite the insistence from Juventus that Pogba is not for sale, the Premier League champions will try again before the window closes as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his squad.
Barcelona held formal talks in June with Juventus over Pogba and believe they have an option for signing the 22-year-old next summer with the valuation set at around £73million.

SPORTSMAIL REPORTERS: With less than a week to go until the transfer window closes, we asked our team of reporters what fans can expect from their club over the next few days, and whether things have gone well so far.
Here is what they said…

SAMI MOKBEL: Tottenham will table a third offer for Saido Berahino after their latest bid was rejected on Tuesday.
Sportsmail revealed on Monday that Spurs were readying a new £21million offer for the West Brom striker after their initial £18million offer was rebuffed.
And the striker is said to be angry after Tuesday’s offer from the White Hart Lane club was unsuccessful.

ASHLEY CLEMENTS: Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool made a ‘major mistake’ by signing Mario Balotelli last summer and admits he isn’t sad to see the back of the Italian striker.
Balotelli all but completed his return to AC Milan on Tuesday after a disappointing season at Anfield which saw the 25-year-old score just one goal in his 16 Premier League appearances.
And Sportsmail columnist Carragher revealed he ‘still can’t believe’ that his beloved Liverpool signed Balotelli for £16million ahead of the 2014-15 season.

SIMON JONES: Tottenham are considering walking away from a deal for Saido Berahino over West Brom’s valuation.
The White Hart Lane club had a £22million offer rejected by the Baggies on Tuesday, their second bid, for the England U21 international with Albion re-iterating they did not wish to sell.
Berahino has already had a transfer request rejected and is understood to be unhappy at Albion’s refusal to deal with the north London club.

SAMI MOKBEL: West Ham are preparing a move for Nottingham Forest winger Michail Antonio.
The forward is one of the hottest properties outside the Premier League and the Hammers are showing an interest in the 25-year-old.
And the Hammers are considering an offer in region £4.5million for Antonio.

SIMON JONES: Erik Lamela is in negotiations with Inter Milan over a potential summer move, his father and agent has confirmed.
Sportsmail reported that Inter have offered a £4million loan fee with an additional £10m to follow at the end of the season but that is falling short of Tottenham’s valuation.
‘We’re talking with Inter, their interest is real,’ Jose Lamela told Gazzetta dello Sport.

SIMON JONES: Everton have made a £5million move for Tottenham centre back Federico Fazio.
The Argentina international had been talking to West Bromwich Albion before talks broke down at the weekend.
Everton have moved swiftly as they prepare for the possible departure of John Stones, who put in a transfer request on Tuesday afternoon following three failed bids from Chelsea.

SIMON JONES and PETE JENSON: David Moyes is hopeful of closing a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi despite the interest of Southampton.
Sociedad have made a £12m offer to Madrid while Southampton hope to sign him on an initial loan.
The defensive midfielder is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu and is caught between a move back to David Moyes’ Real Sociedad or a switch to the Premier League.

STEPHEN MCGOWAN: Virgil van Dijk has admitted he has almost certainly played his last game for Celtic.
The Dutchman is poised to join English Premier League club Southampton in an £11million deal after failing to lead the Scottish champions to the Champions League group stages in his swansong.
Breaking his silence on his future after the 2-0 defeat to Malmo which condemned Ronny Deila’s side to Europa League football the Dutchman admitted: ‘There is a chance it could be my last appearance.

DOMINIC KING and JACK GAUGHAN: Mario Balotelli has re-joined AC Milan on a season-long loan – immediately declaring he needs stop talking and knuckle down.
The Liverpool striker, who had been training away from the first team squad for most of the last month, has been in Milan over the weekend in an attempt to thrash out a deal to take him away from Anfield.
Balotelli was pictured coming out of a black Audi wearing a red Puma hoodie as he made his way into hospital before penning a deal.

CHARLES SALE: Premier League clubs considering huge outlays in the final week of the transfer window will be greatly encouraged by the start of the auction for overseas television rights.
The signs are that there will be a significant increase on the current £2.2billion of contracts — to be added to the £5.1bn jackpot from the domestic deals — certainly judging by the first two deals out of a proposed 80 agreements for rights in 180 territories.
The Premier League do not automatically disclose the values of their foreign rights but American reports claim the six-year extended deal with NBC for the hugely competitive US market was worth £640m ($1bn) — double the current contract.

NEIL ASHTON: Lewis Grabban went AWOL from Norwich’s team hotel after Canaries manager Alex Neil told him he was a substitute for their Capital One Cup tie with Rotherham.
The forward, who is desperate to return to Bournemouth before the transfer window closes, fled the hotel without telling team-mates or the manager that he was leaving.
Bournemouth submitted a third formal offer to Norwich chief executive David McNally for £5.2million on Tuesday morning, with £1m in incentives if Eddie Howe’s team remain in the Barclays Premier League.

SIMON JONES: Watford have opened talks with Rennes over a possible £8million move for midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The 22-year-old was scouted by Chelsea last season and has been capped by France at U21 level.
The Premier League newcomers will have to make sacrifices to several of the overseas acquisitions, but manager Quique Sanchez Flores is interested in bringing Doucoure to Vicarage Road.

SIMON JONES: Aston Villa have held talks over a potential deal for Roma attacking midfielder Adem Ljajic.
The Serbia international has fallen down the pecking order at the Serie A club following the summer arrivals of Mohamed Salah from Chelsea and Edin Dzeko from Manchester City.
And Roma are ready to cash in on Ljajic, who has previously attracted interest from Manchester United and Tottenham.

PETE JENSON: Southampton could make a late bid to enter the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.
The defensive midfielder is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu and is caught between a move back to David Moyes’ Real Sociedad or a switch to the Premier League.
Sociedad are favourites to take the 25-year-old Spaniard but Real Madrid want the player to move on a permanent basis and not on loan. The Basque club are still struggling to raise the €15million (£11m) asking price and match the player’s €2.5m (£1.8m) salary.

DOMINIC KING and JOE STRANGE: John Stones has taken matters into his owns hands and handed in a transfer request in attempt to force through his dream move to Chelsea.
The champions are now expected to return with a fourth bid in the region of £35million for the defender as one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer reaches a head.
Stones – who has seen Chelsea’s offers of £20m, £26m and £30m rebuffed – did not want to take this course of action but felt he had no other option as Everton hold such a stubborn stance.
