Zenit deliver Player of the Month award to Malcom via drone

Football at a standstill

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the majority of football across the globe to a standstill.

The Premier League has been suspended since mid-March, and in their latest update, it was confirmed that the English top-flight wouldn’t resume until it was safe and appropriate to do so.

Along with the Premier League, the remaining top-five European leagues are also currently on hold, with the Euros and Copa America, which were due to take place this summer, now pushed back to 2021.

Malcom receives POTM award via drone

The Russian Premier League has also been suspended since the 17th of March.

However, despite football having only taken place for around half of the month of March, Zenit Saint Petersburg have handed out their latest Player of the Month award this week.

Ex-Barcelona star Malcom was the man who clinched the award, with Zenit having delivered the trophy in a rather unorthodox way.

As shown on a video doing the rounds on Zenit’s social media platforms, Malcom, who was filming himself on his phone, stated:

“I’ve just received a message that I need to open a window.”

The footage then shows a drone being flown through Malcom’s window, with the POTM award attached to it.

Malcom had this to say after picking up the trophy:

“Whoa, that’s powerful! I want to thank all the fans at Zenit FC for voting for me. I am very happy. Stay home. It is important.”
