Jota joins Liverpool

Diogo Jota left Wolves over the summer, to join Premier League champions Liverpool.

The Reds are understood to have paid around £41m to land the forward, a fee which could rise to £45m with add-ons.

At the time, more than a few eyebrows were raised regarding Liverpool’s decision to splash out such a high sum on a player whom most presumed would slot into a backup role.

However, the early stages of the campaign have seen Jota go a considerable way towards justifying his transfer fee.

Nuno Santo happy for Jota

Despite starting just twice in the Premier League, Jota has already netted three times, two of which proved key in Jurgen Klopp’s men picking up three points.

The Portuguese has also notched four goals in three Champions League outings, including a hat-trick vs Atalanta in midweek.

This display even saw the Liverpool star named the Champions League’s Player of the Week on Friday:

And, amid his impressive start to life on Merseyside, Jota has this weekend been on the receiving end of some considerable praise from former boss, Nuno Espirito Santo:

“We are very happy for Diogo.

“He is enjoying his football, enjoying his momentum, he is doing amazing for Liverpool. I think Klopp is really happy with him.

“For us, we worked together for four seasons and when a player goes and succeeds it makes us happy.

“In the case of Diogo it’s not a surprise. Diogo loves the game, he is committed, he lives for football, he plays and watches all the games.

“I am really happy for Diogo and I hope he continues and enjoys it game by game. It’s a joy to see him smile.”
