Will Kieran Tierney be fit to face England? Scotland boss provides update on defender following 2-0 defeat

Scotland boss Steve Clarke was quizzed on Kieran Tierney’s chances of facing England following his side’s 2-0 defeat to the Czech Republic on Monday.

England vs Scotland

England and  Scotland are set to face off at Wembley on Friday, June 18th.

The meeting will mark the first time that the old rivals have gone head-to-head at a major tournament since all the way back at Euro 96, when the Three Lions came out on top with a 2-0 win.

England, after seeing off Croatia in their group opener – their first-ever opening day win at the European Championships – will no doubt be brimming with confidence ahead of Friday.

Should they beat Scotland, the nation’s spot atop Group D is all but guaranteed.

The Scots, on the other hand, marked their return to major tournament football with something of a whimper.

Steve Clarke’s side faced off with the Czech Republic, arguably their weakest opponent in Group D, and lost 2-0 following a brace from Patrik Schick – the second of which came as arguably the goal of the tournament so far:

Scotland were forced to take on the Czech Republic without the services of Kieran Tierney.

The Arsenal defender has been key to his nation’s success of late, but missed out on Monday due to injury.

So, Tartan Army fans will no doubt be desperate to see Tierney return vs England this coming Friday.

Steve Clarke, in turn, was asked about the stopper’s chances of facing the Three Lions following today’s defeat. And the Scotland boss went on to explain:

“Yeah, I’m hopeful, but I wouldn’t be getting too excited about it. We miss Kieran [no doubt about it].”
