Why Tammy Abraham is not in Chelsea’s squad for FA Cup semi-final showdown with Man City

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has provided an explanation for his decision to leave Tammy Abraham out of his matchday squad this evening.

Wembley showdown

Tuchel and co. are of course currently locked in action, in English football’s marquee weekend fixture.

The clash sees the Blues facing off with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, for a spot in the final of the FA Cup.

Both sides headed into proceedings with their tails up, on the back of crucial victories in Europe during the week.

After Chelsea first ousted Porto to book their spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League, Man City followed suit 24 hours later, after getting the better of Borussia Dortmund.

In turn, a hard-fought, quality filled affair is widely predicted at Wembley over the coming hours.

Abraham latest

Ahead of the action getting underway, meanwhile, as is customary, the starting line-ups of both sides were announced an hour prior to kick-off.

Pep Guardiola opted to ring the changes from midweek, with the likes of Ederson, Kyle Walker and Phil Foden having dropped out, for Zack Steffen, Joao Cancelo and Raheem Sterling:

The major talking point when it comes to the latest selection choices of Thomas Tuchel, on the other hand, have surrounded one of those to have been overlooked once again by the German.

The player in question? Tammy Abraham.

English hitman Abraham has of course majorly struggled for game-time since Tuchel was chosen as the man to replace Frank Lampard in the dugout at Stamford Bridge, with his omission from Chelsea’s starting XI on Saturday having therefore come as little surprise.

What did, though, was his complete absence from the Pensioners’ matchday squad:

In turn, Tuchel was inevitably drawn on the decision during a pre-match interview this evening, with the Chelsea boss having cited a ‘loss of confidence’ on Abraham’s part:
