A fresh update on Bayern Munich’s reported interest in Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has emerged recently.
Hudson-Odoi linked with Bayern Munich
The Chelsea winger was heavily linked with the German champions a few years back but those rumours died down somewhat following CHO penning a new contract.
The last few months of the 2020/21 campaign, however, saw Hudson-Odoi fall out of favour somewhat.
When Thomas Tuchel took the reins at Chelsea, Hudson-Odoi was featuring fairly regularly in a somewhat new role.
The winger was deployed in a right-wing-back role in a back-five formation, featuring in Tuchel’s first seven Premier League games.
However, as the weeks went by, Tuchel began to play the 20-year-old less and less, instead choosing to deploy either Cesar Azpilicueta or Reece James at RWB.
Further forward, meanwhile, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech look to be ahead of Hudson-Odoi in the attacking pecking order.
As a result, it wasn’t too surprising to see it reported earlier this month that Chelsea will consider offers for Hudson-Odoi and that Bayern Munich had renewed their interest in him.
Bayern’s stance on Hudson-Odoi move
However, just a few weeks later, it appears the German champions have changed their stance on CHO.
Journalist Constantin Eckner, who previously reported that Bayern were renewing their interest in the Chelsea man, now claims that the Bundesliga outfit’s interest has vanished.
The reason behind this, according to Eckner, is that Bayern could not offer Hudson-Odoi the salary he earns at Chelsea:
Bayern Munich’s interest in Callum Hudson-Odoi has, somewhat unsurprisingly, vanished, as they couldn’t offer him the salary he currently earns at Chelsea anyway.
Julian Nagelsmann wants to keep Kingsley Coman, though. By the way, Bayern Munich’s interest in Callum Hudson-Odoi has, somewhat unsurprisingly, vanished, as they couldn’t offer him the salary he currently earns at Chelsea anyway. #Bayern #CFC #LFC https://t.co/jsrkIUzMAT

What does the future hold for Hudson-Odoi?
But whilst Bayern may not be eyeing a move for CHO anymore, his future still seems somewhat up in the air.
As already discussed, he does not look to be high in the pecking order of Thomas Tuchel, meaning he would likely be forced to settle for a bit-part role at Chelsea next season.
And, with it claimed that Chelsea’s priority in the market is to sign a striker, that would surely only further limit Hudson-Odoi’s game time next term because, whilst he does not play up top, signing another striker would likely mean Werner and Havertz are pushed out wide on a more regular basis, which is of course where Hudson-Odoi operates.
But with Hudson-Odoi still only 20, would he not be better served going out either on loan or permanently to earn more regular football in order to continue his development?
