Liverpool have taken to social media this evening, to provide an explanation for Alisson’s absence from the club’s matchday squad to take on Ajax.
Liverpool back in action
Jurgen Klopp’s men are set to get their European campaign back underway later tonight.
The Reds will welcome Dutch giants Ajax to Anfield, for their penultimate Champions League group stage outing.
Liverpool head into proceedings sitting pretty atop the Group D table as things stand, two points clear of both their upcoming opponents, and Atalanta.
Nevertheless, the Premier League champions will enter the clash in search of a bounce-back result, having seen their scintillating recent spell of form brought to a firm end by Atalanta last week.
A meeting with La Dea on Merseyside saw the hosts deservedly downed by 2 goals to nil, meaning that, as things stand, Liverpool have not yet booked their spot in the competition’s knockout rounds.

It is also worth noting that Klopp and co. followed up their European defeat with a disappointing league stalemate with Brighton over the weekend.
Alisson misses out
As such, ahead of kick-off on Tuesday, Liverpool are no doubt desperate to get back to winning ways, with a crucial 3-point haul.
As outlined above, however, the Reds’ hopes this evening have not been at all aided by the absence of a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
The player in question? Alisson.
Upon the starting XI of the hosts making its way online a short time ago, shot-stopper Alisson was nowhere to be seen, quickly resulting in widespread panic amongst the Liverpool faithful.
The Merseysiders themselves, though, have since moved to ease such fears, confirming that their no.1’s absence versus Ajax comes simply as a precaution, as Alisson deals with a tight muscle in his leg:

*Update* – Jurgen Klopp has since revealed that Alisson’s issue is in his hamstring, with the Brazilian therefore likely to miss somewhere between 10 and 14 days of action:
Klopp: “Alisson had a scan. It is a little injury but I never knew a hamstring injury that wasn’t 10-14 days.” https://t.co/FMThMZsSnA
