What Japhet Tanganga said to Alfie Devine ahead of Tottenham debut

Japhet Tanganga has revealed what he said to Alfie Devine ahead of his Tottenham debut over the weekend.

Tottenham hammer Marine

Tottenham were in FA Cup 3rd round action on Sunday afternoon vs Marine.

Spurs, of course, headed into the tie as favourites with Marine a non-league side.

And unsurprisingly, the Lilywhites were able to come away with a very comfortable win on Sunday.

Marine would give Spurs something of a scare early in the match, rifling an effort off Joe Hart’s crossbar.

However, from then on, Tottenham went on to dominate the tie.

Carlos Vinicius bagged himself a hat-trick in the first 45 with Lucas also scoring one before the break.

What Tanganga told Devine

The north Londoners would add just one more goal in the second 45, courtesy of youngster Alfie Devine.

After netting vs Marine, Devine made history by becoming the youngster player to both play and score for Spurs:

Now, following his debut, Japhet Tanganga, who came on at the same time as Devine vs Marine, has revealed what he told the young forward before he entered the pitch:

“He’s trained a few times with us and every time he’s come up he’s looked a real spark. He’s doing well.

“When he was coming on [with me at half-time], I just told him, ‘Keep it simple, do what you’ve been doing in training – there’s a reason why you’ve been training up’.

“Today you saw glimpses of his ability, a really professional performance. I’m really happy for him to get his first professional goal. He’s a really good player and there’s more to come as well.”
