Adrian signs new Liverpool deal

Liverpool have announced a new 2-year deal for Spanish goalkeeper Adrian.

The former West Ham stopper is said to have turned down a number of offers from Spain to remain in the northwest.

Speaking with Liverpool’s official website, Adrian described his ‘delight’ at the new deal.

“I’m delighted, I’m very happy to stay in the club,” said Adrian

“Firstly, because it’s a reward from the club for the hard work that I’ve been doing since I signed two years ago.

“I really appreciate that confidence from the club, from the manager and from everyone involved in that situation.

“And secondly, and above all of that, it’s a pleasure to stay in Liverpool – it’s such a big club. But being as well a family club, it’s very special for any player to stay here. I am privileged.”

Adrian came in to play three Premier League games last season. 2 League Cup matches and one Champions League tie. However, what could the new deal mean for the highly rated Irish stopper Caoimhin Kelleher?

Kelleher to be number 2

Despite the new 2-year deal for Adrian, Liverpool’s 22-year-old Kelleher is expected to become the number two behind Alisson.

The Athletic’s James Pearce has said that not only will the Irishman become the back-up to the goalscoring keeper, he will also recieve a new contract.

Kelleher now No 2 to Alisson and will be given a new contract too.

Klopp’s delight at Adrian’s new deal spurns from the player’s impact in the dressing room. His experience is considered a valuable asset to the club and something that was needed.

Adrian said he was happy to do the job he is asked to do and clearly content to be at the club than playing week-in week-out somewhere else.

“I’m happy to do that job and also to try to have my opportunity as well and give the best when I have the chance.”
