West Bromwich Albion still expect Saido Berahino to be fit for the start of the new Premier League season, despite the striker being ruled out for a month with strained knee ligaments.
Sportsmail revealed last week that the Hawthorns club were confident the forward would not miss all of pre-season after sustaining a knee injury whilst on England Under 21 duty.
And following tests back at the Midlands club it has revealed no major damage to his right knee, with Berahino expected to return to training at the end of July – two weeks before the season begins.

Therefore, the 21-year-old is in line to be fit for the Baggies’s season opener against Manchester City at the Hawthorns on August 8.
The Club’s Performance Director Dr Mark Gillett said: ‘Saido has got a ligamentous tear of his knee which does not require surgery but careful rehabilitation for up to four weeks.
‘We are grateful to the England medical staff for putting Saido’s welfare first.’

Berahino was in excellent form the Baggies last term – scoring 20 goals in all competitions
Berahino is due to be given extra time off this summer anyway, despite missing the European Championship with the injury due to the fact he trained with Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of the tournament.
The forward was left devastated after picking up the injury, sustained during training, which forced Southgate to exclude him from his squad.
Berahino was due to play a key role for the England Under 21s.
