Wayne Rooney

Amid the club’s poor start to 2021/22, Wayne Rooney has moved to question Manchester United’s players.

Man United struggling

Manchester United suffered one of their worst-ever Premier League defeats last weekend.

The Red Devils would play host to bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford, and suffered a simply embarrassing 5-0 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Before the game was even over, Manchester United’s fans began calling for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be sacked, with many opting to use the hashtag, ‘OleOut’.

Resentment towards Solskjaer has been building for some time now, with United already out of the League Cup, failing to impress in the Champions League and, after losing to Liverpool, eight points behind table-topping Chelsea in the Premier League.

Wayne Rooney questions Manchester United players

Though most have rightfully levelled the majority of the blame for United’s dismal start to 2021/22 in the direction of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, one former Red Devils star has now instead moved to question the club’s players.

Speaking this weekend, Wayne Rooney urged Solskjaer’s ranks to question themselves, before suggesting that the player personnel at Old Trafford are simply not doing their job ‘well enough’:

“There are very educated people at the top of Manchester United. I’m sure they will be looking at everything to see how they move forward in the near future, whether that’s with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or without.

“The players have to question themselves and look at themselves. It’s too easy for the manager to take all the stick when those players are being paid a lot of money to do the job and I don’t think they’re doing it well enough.

“There is a big responsibility on those players. They are world-class players, international players and a club like Manchester United need more. Those players need to feel hurt when they lose games.

“There are high demands at that club, high pressure, and I’m seeing too many players not willing to run back, not willing to defend, not willing to put everything on the line and that’s not acceptable. Are you telling me that’s the manager’s fault or the players’ fault? I don’t know.”
