Villarreal make off for Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin

Bellerin’s Emery offer

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin has growing interest from the continent. The Spaniard was used less and less by Mikel Arteta with Calum Chambers being preferred in the latter stages of the 2020/21 season.

There were also reports that the pair had come to an agreement which would see the former Barcelona youth product leave the club at the conclusion of the season.

Arsenal are looking to raise funds in the window to then reinvest into transfer targets.

Atletico Madrid had been credited with an interest in Bellerin with Kieran Trippier looking likely to depart this window.

However, it now appears former Arsenal boss Unai Emery sees Bellerin as a potential candidate for their right-back spot next season.

‘Héctor Bellerín has an offer from Villarreal. Sevilla is also behind him. The player has the priority to come to Spain or Italy,’ wrote DiMarzio reporter Matteo Moretto.

Villarreal lost the services of Juan Foyth of Spurs who played much of the season as a right-back. He re-joined Spurs having only been with the Spanish side on loan.

Arsenal replacements

With Bellerin going, naturally, the club has been linked with a number of possible replacements.

The Gunners lost out on Norwich City’s Emi Buendia to Aston Villa, however, are also interested in the Canaries’ Max Aarons.

Aarons played in the Premier League when Norwich were last in the top flight and helped them regain promotion, partnering Buendia on the right flank. He is known for his attacking style, something Mikel Arteta clearly likes.

An alternative is Lille’s Zeki Celik. The Turkish international impressed with the French side, helping them claim the Ligue 1 title.

Arsenal have a good relationship with Lille having purchased Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Magalhaes from them in the past.

Whoever Arsenal end up acquiring, it seems a handsome fee will be made to pay for their target from Bellerin’s sale.
