Tottenham’s Heung-min Son doesn’t believe he is among Premier League’s best

Son on fire

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few months, you are likely well aware of the sensational start to the season Heung-min Son has enjoyed.

After just eight league outings, Son has already managed to notch a staggering eight goals and two assists.

This makes the forward the joint-top scorer in the Premier League alongside Mohamed Salah, Jamie Vardy and Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Son’s form has also been a key factor in Spurs currently boasting the second-best attack in the English top-flight.

Son’s link-up play with Harry Kane has been a particular highlight, with the pair now the second-best duo in Premier League history when it comes to combined goal contributions.

Son plays down his quality

And though a case could be made that 2020/21 has been the South Korean’s most impressive start to a campaign, he has always been a consistent performer for the Lilywhites.

In the three previous campaigns, for example, Son would reach double figures for both goals and assists.

And in the 2016/17 season – the last time the 28-year-old failed to reach double digits for goals and assists – he still managed to net 21 and assist nine in all competitions.

As a result, a case could certainly be made that, at present, Son is one of the top players currently plying their trade in the Premier League.

When speaking recently though, the former Bayer Leverkusen standout stated he has never thought himself among the Premier League’s elite:

“I’ve never once thought I am among the best players in the Premier League. Honestly, I’ve never thought that for a moment.

“I have always tried to do my best for Tottenham and in the national team and try to show all my abilities. It feels different to play for the national team and for Spurs. We will prepare well so that we can play as well as we can for the fans.”
