Tottenham & AC Milan ‘£9m apart’ on Aurier valuation/Spurs looking at 3 right-back options

Aurier to AC Milan?

Serge Aurier joined Tottenham in August of 2017 from PSG.

The north Londoners are understood to have paid around £22.5m for the full-back.

Aurier has since gone on to endure something of a mixed stint with the Lilywhites.

The Ivorian is solid going forward, and is often found bombing down Spurs’ right-hand side. However, his defensive capabilities leave much to be desired.

The defender also has just under two years left on his current deal with Tottenham.

So, when reports began to emerge that AC Milan had opened talks with Aurier earlier this month, Spurs fans were probably not overly disheartened at the prospect of losing their right-back.

However, nearly two weeks after talks are said to have begun, the two clubs appear to be some distance apart in their respective valuations of the defender.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs would like to recoup almost all of the £22m that they paid to PSG back in 2017.

However, it’s understood that AC Milan only want to pay around £13m for Aurier’s services.

Will Tottenham actually secure their desired fee for Aurier, though? If they manage to do so, it doesn’t appear as though it will come from AC Milan, as the Standard report that the Italians are considering PSV Eindhoven right-back Denzel Dumfries as a cheaper alternative.

Tottenham targeting new right-back

Should Aurier eventually depart this summer, Spurs appear to have a host of players lined up as potential replacements.

As per the Mirror, citing The Athletic, Tottenham have identified three players who could fill their right-back slot ahead of next season.

The players in question are Norwich’s Max Aarons, Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne and Lille’s Zeki Celik.

Aarons would likely prove the most expensive of the trio, with Norwich said to have set a £30m asking price. Previous reports have suggested that £18m would be enough to land Celik, with Everton also believed to be interested in the Lille man.

Castagne, meanwhile, has previously stated that he couldn’t say no to a side like Spurs, an admission which would likely help the north Londoners out if they do, in the end, pursue a deal for the Belgian.
