Thomas Tuchel on match-winner Reece James’ wellbeing following nasty collision vs Arsenal

Thomas Tuchel on match-winner Reece James’ wellbeing following nasty collision vs Arsenal

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has, on Sunday evening, provided an update on the wellbeing of star defender Reece James.

Lukaku back with a bang

Tuchel’s Blues were of course back in action a short time ago.

Chelsea made the trip to the Emirates for a Premier League meeting with Arsenal, hoping to build on a comfortable opening day victory over Crystal Palace.

And, when all was said and done in North London, make it two wins from two is precisely what the visitors managed.

A dominant display, during which Chelsea could and probably should have added further to the scoreline, eventually culminated in a 2-0 final result.

Romelu Lukaku, lining out for his 2nd debut in the colours of the Pensioners, opened the evening’s scoring courtesy of a simple close-range finish with a quarter of an hour on the clock:

And Reece James, who teed up Lukaku’s opener, made sure of Chelsea’s three points shortly before the interval, picking out the far corner with a pinpoint right-footed strike:

‘He was shocked’

An otherwise stellar evening for Tuchel’s men, however, did also feature one altogether concerning incident.

Late in the action at the Emirates, a heavy collision between match-winner James and Arsenal substitute Nuno Tavares left the former grounded, and, at first glance, seemingly knocked out cold.

It soon became clear that James was in fact conscious, though, and simply recovering from a heavy blow to the head.

Nevertheless, speaking on the back of the action coming to a close in the capital, Thomas Tuchel was inevitably drawn on the wellbeing of his stopper, amid concerns that he may have suffered a concussion.

But the Chelsea boss was quick to quell any such fears, revealing that James’ primary concern was a potentially broken tooth:
