‘This isn’t football’ – Micah Richards furious with decision to disallow Cavani’s goal vs Tottenham

‘This isn’t football’ – Micah Richards furious with decision to disallow Cavani’s goal vs Tottenham

Tottenham vs Man United

Sunday’s marquee Premier League game sees Tottenham and Manchester United face off.

Heading into the clash, the former were the outfit in more desperate need of all three points.

Man United, despite Liverpool’s win on Saturday, began the day with an eight-point advantage over 5th spot in the English top-flight, with Champions League football looking very likely to be played at Old Trafford next season.

Spurs, on the other hand, had slipped out of the top-six, after Liverpool’s win over Aston Villa.

Micah Richards speaks out

The first 45 minutes of action this evening proved pretty uneventful, but Edinson Cavani did have the ball in the net around 30 minutes in.

However, the goal was ruled out, after VAR pulled play back after Scott McTominay was adjudged to have put his hand in Heung-min Son’s face during the build-up.

Then, just moments after Son flung himself to the ground and somewhat bizarrely pretended to need treatment, he went down the other end to fire the hosts into the lead:

Spurs headed in at the break with a 1-0 lead, having infuriated the United players with a trademark Jose Mourinho first-half showing.

Former Manchester City star Micah Richards, meanwhile, was one of the pundits to have discussed the game on Sky Sports at the interval.

And, when doing so, Richards launched into a furious rant over VAR, and the decision to disallow Cavani’s goal:

“This isn’t football. I barely even recognise the game anymore. That is never a foul. It’s spoiling football. We may as well all go home now.”

Richards even took to social media during the game to share the comments he made on Sky, accompanied by the caption ‘I don’t recognise the game any more. This is NEVER a foul.’
