Nuno charged

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has been charged by the FA for improper conduct after comments made regarding match official Lee Mason after he saw his side lose 2-1 to Burnley at Turf Moor.

“Nuno Espírito Santo has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to their Premier League match against Burnley FC on Monday 21 December 2020,” read a statement from the FA spokesperson.

“It is alleged that comments made by the head coach during a post-match interview constitute improper conduct as they were personally offensive to the match official and/or bring the game into disrepute contrary to FA Rule E3.1. Nuno Espírito Santo has until Tuesday 5 January 2021 to provide a response to the charge.”

Speaking after the match, Nuno said that the referee had to ‘get better’ and this has now led to the charge.

“The referee does not have the quality to whistle the game,” he said.

“It is not about the crucial mistakes or decisions, it is about the way he handles the game. The players get nervous, too much voices, he whistles by the voices when some players are shouting.”

Missing Jimenez

Wolves have faced a tricky phase of their Premier League campaign of late losing twice and drawing in their previous three matches. It is clear that with the absence of Raul Jimenez, who suffered a fractured skull in Wolves’ 2-1 victory against Arsenal earlier this season, the west midlands club have been struggling to convert chances.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright felt that had Nuno Espírito Santo had the Mexican striker available, they would have nicked the game.

“Wolves very very unlucky at Manchester United,” said Wright.

“Wolves fans won’t want to hear it but if they’ve got that goalscorer then playing like this they’d probably nick this game and win it. “But United did what they do, they didn’t give up because they’ve got top quality players.”

The Portuguese coach has tried a number of options since losing his number 9. Young striker Fabio Silva has been given opportunities but so far failed to step up to the job significantly, The unorthodox choice of Pedro Neto has been tested but the 20-year-old is typically more of a wide player.

With January approaching, there is an chance for Wolves to dip into the market and purchase or loan in a more natural striker.
