An update on the fitness of Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara has been forthcoming online, as the Reds prepare for a high-profile clash with Manchester City.

Etihad showdown

The marquee fixture of the coming Premier League weekend will see City welcome Jurgen Klopp’s men to the Etihad.

The matchup of course marks a meeting between the champions of the last two seasons, with Sunday’s visitors in current possession of the title of English football’s best.

Liverpool will no doubt head to Manchester brimming with confidence, on the back of a stellar spell of form of late.

A run of 4 consecutive wins across all competitions was extended on Tuesday night, when the Merseysiders ran riot in Italy, to put Atalanta to the sword by 5 goals to nil.

A hard-fought victory over West Ham last weekend, meanwhile, saw the champions reclaim their spot atop the Premier League table.

Thiago latest

As such, though Manchester City, despite their hit-and-miss start to the domestic season, will of course pose a major threat, Liverpool will likely fancy their chances of emerging from the Etihad with all 3 points.

One concern which nevertheless remains for Jurgen Klopp ahead of the clash, though, comes on the personnel front.

The Reds are in the midst of a dismal stretch of luck when it comes to injuries, with the likes of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk (long-term), Fabinho, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara having all spent time on the sidelines already this season.

And, as outlined above, an update on the fitness of the latter of these stars has this evening been forthcoming.

Summer arrival Thiago has not featured since Liverpool’s Merseyside derby meeting with Everton 3 weeks ago, after being on the receiving end of a nasty Richarlison challenge.

And, as revealed by the reliable James Pearce, the Spanish midfielder will need to return to full first-team training on Friday, if he hopes to have any chance of featuring versus City this weekend:
