Arsenal travel to Old Trafford

Arsenal are the last of the traditional top 6 to take on Manchester United, with the Gunners travelling to Old Trafford on Thursday night.

They have already seen Manchester City and Liverpool win comfortably there, while United have fared better away, defeating Tottenham and, most recently, earning a draw with Chelsea on their travels.

However, there remain questions over just how United will try to play, with a different set-up used against virtually all of the four opponents mentioned above. Most recently, Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped for their trip to Stamford Bridge, inspiring a pressing system that had not previously been deployed effectively.

Should the Gunners be able to take all three points from the game, they would move eight points clear of the Red Devils, while a Manchester United win would narrow the gap to just two points, and put them right back in the race for the final top-four spot.

But who will be in charge?

When will Rangnick make his managerial bow?

There is no doubt that Ralph Rangnick will become Manchester United’s next manager, on a six month interim contract.

However, there is far more concern about when he will be able to take charge. Previously, it was thought that he would be able to be in the dugout for the game against Arsenal, however as per David Ornstein of The Athletic:

“His appointment is expected to be confirmed in the next 24 hours but it is not yet clear whether his first game in charge will be Thursday’s visit of Arsenal or Crystal Palace’s trip to Old Trafford on December 5.”

Why? Well, as per the same source:

“There is still some uncertainty over when Rangnick’s visa process will be completed”

Could we see Rangnick take charge on Thursday, or will Carrick’s marching band continue on their merry way?
