The latest on Arsenal’s Thomas Partey pursuit with Atletico star ‘keen’ to join Gunners

An update on Arsenal’s chase of Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey has been forthcoming online on Tuesday.

Gunners links

Speculation surrounding the future of Ghanaian international Partey has of course been rampant this summer.

Following another superb campaign, during which the 27-year-old again proved himself to be one of the finest midfielders in La Liga, Partey has inevitably been linked with a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

The likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Barcelona have all been tipped as potential destinations.

The outfit most persistently rumoured to actually be readying a swoop for the all-action Atletico man, though, have of course been Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta is known to be a fan of the Ghanaian’s talents, with Partey exactly the type of upgrade which the Gunners’ midfield has so long been crying out for.

‘Priority target’

To this point, however, despite rampant speculation, an agreement of any kind is yet to be struck.

Recent weeks have even seen the links between the Gunners and Partey die down somewhat.

If the latest word stemming from the English media this afternoon is to be believed, however, then the recent silence surrounding the possibility of the African standout making the move to the Emirates does not reflect the reality of the situation.

On the back of Arsenal finally pushing a deal for defender Gabriel Magalhaes over the line, an update has also been forthcoming on the north Londoners’ interest in Partey.

The news comes courtesy of the reliable Charles Watts of Goal.com.

As confirmed by the ITK Arsenal man, Mikel Arteta and co. remain extremely keen on Partey’s signature. In fact, the 27-year-old stands as the club’s ‘priority target’.

Significantly, it is also added that Partey himself is keen on a move to the English capital, as confirmed by sources close to the player.

The main issues, as things stand, however, come in the form of Arsenal’s financial situation, and Atleti’s stance on their midfield star.

The La Liga giants have continued to insist that Partey will under no circumstances be sold unless his €50 million release clause is met.

This, in turn, poses a major obstacle for Arsenal, who simply do not have such a sizable figure readily available to fork over.

As such, the ability of those in charge of transfers at the Emirates to push the sales of the likes of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira over the line will, in the end, prove the key to the club’s Partey pursuit.
