Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that the fitness problem picked up by Southampton star man Danny Ings, as things stand, ‘doesn’t look good’.

Southampton stave off comeback

The Saints made the trip to Villa Park earlier today, for their latest Premier League clash.

The two sides headed into proceedings on the back of fine, albeit largely differing starts to the campaign.

Southampton struggled early on, before looking much improved over recent weeks, culminating in an impressive 2-0 win over then-table-toppers Everton last weekend.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, exploded out of the gates, notching wins in their first four league outings, before falling to a concerning 3-0 defeat at home to Leeds United last time out.

And, when all was said and done this afternoon, form held very much true.

One of the games of the campaign thus far eventually saw visitors Southampton run out winners by 4 goals to 3.

Incredibly, the Saints raced out to a 4-goal advantage, courtesy of finishes from Jannik Vestergaard and Danny Ings, either side of a James Ward-Prowse double.

Villa did manage to pull one back shortly after the hour mark, but, as proceedings rolled into injury-time, the visitors’ 3-goal advantage remained intact.

This was until a hectic last-gasp flurry, during which both Ollie Watkins and Jack Grealish went on to find the net.

In the end, though, the efforts of Dean Smith’s men proved to be in vain, as the Claret and Blue continued their tumble down the Premier League table.
