Solskjaer hints at changes vs Brighton & Shaw explains why League Cup is valuable for Man United

Brighton vs Man United

Manchester United are set to face Brighton for the second time in less than a week on Wednesday.

United’s second league outing of the campaign saw them face a trip to the Amex this past Saturday.

The Red Devils were by no means at their best on the day, but a late Bruno Fernandes penalty saw the Manchester powerhouse clinch a 3-2 victory.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must now take his side down south once again as the two outfits prepare to do battle in the League Cup 4th round.

Man United edged past Luton in the last round whilst Brighton saw off Preston.

Shaw on the League Cup

Ahead of Wednesday’s game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested he will make some changes for United’s second clash with the Seagulls.

The Norwegian would also do so vs Luton with the likes of Dean Henderson, Juan Mata, Fred and new boy Donny van de Beek all handed starts.

And given none of those players started over the weekend, you would imagine they will be on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Luke Shaw has been discussing the importance of the League Cup.

The left-back stated that it is, obviously, a competition they want to win. But it is also a great chance for Solskjaer to hand some fringe players a chance to impress:

“Of course it’s a competition we want to win, but I think it gives the manager that opportunity to give chances to other players that are on the bench and on the fringe, who are training very hard to get chances.

“I think games like this are perfect for them. It’s good that we’ve got a very strong squad with players who are ready to play and are ready to take their chance. I’m sure the players are looking forward to that on Wednesday.

“Matches are coming thick and fast and, like I say, they’re competitions that we want to be strong in, we want to be winning and be challenging in. But it’s also a chance for players to get game time and sharpness.”
