Sergio Aguero to Barcelona ‘imminent’ as Blaugrana send contracts to Argentine’s reps

Word quickly spreading across the European media on Monday suggests that soon-to-be ex-Manchester City star Sergio Aguero is on the verge of agreeing to a deal with Barcelona.

City exit incoming

The news which Sky Blues fans across the globe were no doubt dreading was of course finally forthcoming late last month.

This came in the form of confirmation that club icon Aguero’s time at the Etihad is set to come to an end in the summer.

The Argentine has of course long stood as one of the most lethal strikers in English football, and actually boasts, by some distance, the best goals-to-minutes ratio in Premier League history:

Aguero was also responsible for what most view as the most iconic moment in the division’s history, in netting a last-second winner versus QPR on the final day of the 2011/12 campaign, to snatch the title away from Manchester United.

Nevertheless, with injuries beginning to catch up with the 32-year-old, and his contract in Manchester due to expire in the summer, the no doubt gut-wrenching decision was eventually made for Aguero and City to go their separate ways upon the completion of the season:

Barca bound

Swiftly following on the back of the news regarding Aguero, meanwhile, has been widespread speculation surrounding where exactly the Argentine is set to end up next.

A host of clubs have unsurprisingly expressed an interest in his signature, with the former Atletico Madrid man of course set to be available as a free agent.

Despite links with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and even Leeds, though, the favourites to actually clinch a deal, for some time, have been La Liga giants Barcelona.

And, as outlined above, on Monday, an update on the Blaugrana’s pursuit has been forthcoming.

As per reports from Spanish and Argentinian sources alike, Aguero’s move to the Camp Nou is now viewed as imminent.

This comes with the recently crowned Copa del Rey champions having sent their first official pre-contract offer to the City star’s lawyers:

The deal, which could be announced as early as this week, is expected to see Aguero take a pay cut, amid claims that Barcelona’s swoop for the attacker came with the Catalans unable to afford a viable alternative.
