Sassuolo chief’s comments on Locatelli could be good news for Arsenal

Sassuolo chief’s comments on Locatelli could be good news for Arsenal

Arsenal’s midfield situation

Arsenal’s search for midfield reinforcements this summer does look to have led them to Sassuolo and Italy star, Manuel Locatelli.

Dani Ceballos has left Arsenal after the expiration of his loan deal, whilst Granit Xhaka does look to be on his way to Roma.

This would leave just Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny as central midfield options for Mikel Arteta next term.

As a result, it is unsurprising that the Gunners appear to be eyeing up a couple of midfielders.

A deal for Albert Sambi Lokonga looks set to be completed very soon:

Arsenal & Locatelli

However, it appears the Gunners would still like to add an extra central midfielder to their ranks this summer.

Among the names linked has, as mentioned above, been Manuel Locatelli, who caught the eye this summer with an impressive showing for Italy vs Switzerland.

Sassuolo’s CEO has previously claimed that Arsenal have made a bid for the Italian, whilst also mention that Juventus want him and that they have a special relationship with Juve.

This may have dented Arsenal fan’s hopes of landing Locatelli somewhat, as Juve do have European football next season and, according to Sassuolo’s CEO, have a special relationship with the club.

Now, however, fresh comments on the part of Giovanni Carnevali could prove to be a boost for Arsenal.

Firstly, Giovanni Carnevali stated that Sassuolo received important offers for their midfielder, with one believed to be ‘very well underway’. Could this be Arsenal? It is not really specified by Carnevali.

Perhaps the biggest boost for Arsenal from the CEO’s comments, though, is that he stated that at present, the Italian market has great difficulties and that offers come from abroad. With Juventus Italian and Arsenal not, perhaps this means that the north Londoners are in a better position financially to land Locatelli?

“We have received offers for Locatelli, but also Domenico Berardi, Giacomo Raspadori and Jeremie Boga have requests.

“We will talk about Locatelli when Euro 2020 ends, we want to leave him calm until Sunday. We have received important offers for him, talks with one of which are very well underway.

“We met with Juve and we made an appointment next week but it is all to be evaluated.

“Today the Italian market has great difficulties, offers come from abroad, and it is clear that we have players who are hungry to play for big clubs.”
