Rustu reportedly in ‘critical’ state with coronavirus/Turkish legend’s condition ‘worsening’

Reports spreading across the European media suggest that Turkish goalkeeping icon Rustu Recber is fighting for his life in hospital, after taking a turn for the worse.

‘Critical and difficult times’

The harrowing news regarding Rustu’s state was first revealed over the weekend, when the wife of the former Fenerbahce and Besiktas man took to social media.

In a post on her Instagram account, Isil Recber announced that her husband had been taken into hospital after coming down with a sudden bout of illness.

And, following tests, it was subsequently confirmed that Turkey’s all-time record cap-holder had tested positive for COVID-19:

‘I would have liked to give you better news while being transparent about the truth but I’m sorry to say that my husband is hospitalized with the diagnosis of Covid-19.’

‘Everything was normal when he suddenly developed symptoms really fast and we are still in shock. These are critical and difficult times.’

‘My only request is for people to have conscious and be respectful. My test was negative along with my son and my daughter. He’s in hospital and we are not allowed to see him.’

‘This is the most difficult part, not being able to be with him. God is great and he’s entrusted to Turkish doctors. These days will pass too. Please do not spare your prayers.’

Rustu latest

As outlined above, meanwhile, an update has this afternoon been forthcoming on Rustu’s condition.

The news, however, is far from positive.

As revealed by Spanish Marca, citing local sources in the 46-year-old’s native Turkey, Rustu has taken a turn for the worse.

It is claimed that the one-time Barcelona man’s ‘state has worsened in recent hours’.

As such, Rustu remains in critical condition.
