Robin van Persie has been filmed doing a spot of fishing while on holiday but came across more than he bargained for after catching a shark.
The Manchester United striker’s return of 10 Premier League goals last season was modest by his standards, but the Dutchman found his range with far greater precision when he came face to face with the apex predator.
The Holland international has carved out an impressive career in front of goal, but with his Old Trafford future the subject of growing speculation, van Persie’s skills as an angler have unexpectedly come to the surface.

Robin van Persie settled for a more manageable catch after a day in the sun fishing turned dramatic

The Manchester United striker uses all his force to reel in the beast of the ocean with a helping hand

The sheer size of the shark become apparent after a good few minutes of hard graft using the rod
In the video uploaded on his Facebook page, the 31-year-old clearly struggles to reel in the heavyweight of the ocean, putting all the strength he can muster into the strenuous deed.
Van Persie’s rod eventually brings the shark and her pups to the surface, before he frees the giant beast back to roam the deep blue sea.
United’s players are due back in training on July 1 but Van Persie, along with other players involved in recent internationals, have been given an extra 10 days off before they are reeled into Carrington.
