Rangers talent tipped to follow Gerrard to Aston Villa after starring display in Scotland triumph

Viewers of this evening’s showdown between Scotland and Moldova have flooded to social media, to tip Rangers talent Nathan Patterson for a Premier League switch.

Adams amongst the goals

The Tartan Army of course got their World Cup qualifying campaign back underway a short time ago.

On the back of a quartet of successive wins over the last couple of months, Steve Clarke’s men made the trip to the Zimbru Stadium, for a crucial showdown with the aforementioned Moldova.

Scotland headed into proceedings aware that a victory would secure for them a playoff spot in Group F, behind runaway table-toppers Denmark.

And, when all was said and done on Friday evening, this is precisely what the visitors managed.

A solid all-round display ultimately culminated in Clarke and co. emerging on the right side of a 2-0 scoreline, to take a monumental step towards a place at next year’s Qatar showpiece.

Nathan Patterson opened the game’s scoring shortly before the interval, showcasing impressive composure to pick out the far corner courtesy of a pinpoint left-footed strike:

And it was two just beyond the hour mark, as some stellar inter-play between Patterson and John McGinn resulted in the former pulling back for Che Adams to slot home from close range:

There was still time for Craig Gordon to make his mark on a memorable night, too, as a 2nd-half Moldova penalty was kept out in comprehensive fashion by Scotland’s no.1.

In turn, on the back of the action coming to a close in Chisinau, it should come as little surprise to hear of a host of members of Steve Clarke’s squad being singled out for deserved praise.

The likes of Kieran Tierney and John McGinn shone throughout the 90 minutes, amid a typically team-oriented Scottish display.

As outlined above, though, it is one of the Tartan Army’s stars in particular who has been more widely lauded than any other.

The player in question? Nathan Patterson.

Stopper Patterson was handed his 7th cap for his country this evening, lining out on the right of the visitors’ back-4.

And the 20-year-old went on to take full advantage of the latest opportunity afforded to him, chipping in with not only the game’s opener, but also the assist for Adams’ result-securing 2nd.

In turn, despite having been at fault for the late penalty awarded to Moldova, viewers have been quick to send deserved praise in his direction, amid suggestions that recently departed Rangers boss Steven Gerrard could well attempt to lure his former starlet away from Ibrox, and to new club Aston Villa:
