Paul Pogba could yet sign new Manchester United deal – Goal

As per a report from Goal.com, despite being expected to move on, Paul Pogba could yet put pen-to-paper on a new contract at Manchester United.

Rumours surrounding the future of Red Devils star man Pogba have been rife since the beginning of last summer.

On the back of a hit-and-miss campaign last time out, during which the Frenchman again proved himself to be one of the most infuriatingly-inconsistent players in world football, Pogba was heavily-targeted by the United faithful on the final day of the season.

As such, the growing tension between the 26-year-old and the Red Devils, coupled with Real Madrid’s public chase of a superstar midfield addition, resulted in Pogba being hotly-tipped to make a move to the Bernabeu.

In the end, though, despite the World Cup winner’s agent, Mino Raiola, confirming that his client was angling for a departure, Pogba was forced to stay put.

Raiola influence

Pogba remaining at Old Trafford, however, has not put to bed the questions surrounding his future.

In fact, speculation that the midfielder could soon be on the move has ramped up once again over the last couple of weeks.

This comes on the back of recent comments on the part of both Mino Raiola and Pogba’s brother, Mathias.

After Raiola first hinted at a potential summer return to Serie A champions Juventus for his client, the ever-controversial super-agent followed up by aiming a scathing jibe at Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mathias Pogba, meanwhile, claimed in no uncertain terms earlier this week that ‘everyone knows Paul wants to leave’ Old Trafford.

Pogba to stay put?

As such, the widespread assumption, at this point, is that Manchester United’s midfield dynamo will inevitably be on the move this summer.

As per the aforementioned report from Goal, though, such a scenario may not be as straightforward in coming to fruition as envisioned.

This comes due to the hefty sum likely to be demanded by the Red Devils hierarchy.

United are reportedly determined not to suffer a loss on Pogba, having splashed out £89 million on his signature 4 years ago.

In fact, it is claimed that Ed Woodward and co will demand a minimum of £130 million for the French international.

Pogba’s main suitors, however, in the form of Real Madrid and Juventus, are viewed as highly unlikely to splash out such a fee on a player who has failed to impress on the pitch for some time now.

As such, despite Mino Raiola remaining hopeful of securing a cut-price transfer for his star client, the possibility of Pogba being priced out of an Old Trafford departure stands as a real possibility.

And, according to Goal, such a scenario could see the 26-year-old left with little choice but to put pen-to-paper on fresh terms with United:

‘For United, it would protect the resale value on a player who has two years remaining on his current deal. For Pogba and Raiola it would be some kind of compensation for not being granted the move he has seemingly desired for two seasons.’
