One staggering Jordan Henderson > West Brom stat summed up Liverpool’s first-half dominance

One staggering Jordan Henderson > West Brom stat summed up Liverpool’s first-half dominance

A baffling statistic has surfaced online this evening, perfectly encapsulating the first-half dominance of Liverpool during their meeting with West Bromwich Albion.

Mane on target

Jurgen Klopp’s men are currently locked in action with the Baggies at Anfield.

The Reds of course entered proceedings with their tails up, amid a stellar spell of recent form.

Liverpool’s last outing pre-Christmas saw the champions depart Selhurst Park on the right side of a staggering 7-0 scoreline, to take firm control of the Premier League title race.

In turn, ahead of kick-off versus West Brom this evening, Klopp and co. were aware that a victory would guide them a full 5 points clear of the chasing pack atop the English top-flight.

And, as things stand, this is precisely what the Merseysiders are headed towards.

Liverpool currently lead Sam Allardyce’s visitors by a goal to nil, courtesy of a typically superb finish from Sadio Mane.

A fine ball to the edge of the West Brom penalty area on the part of Joel Matip saw Mane control wonderfully with his chest, before sliding a pinpoint volleyed effort beyond the helpless Sam Johnstone:

The one-goal difference on the scoreboard at the break, however, did not aptly highlight the extent of Liverpool’s control over proceedings during the opening 45 minutes this evening.

West Brom, whilst largely solid defensively, barely stepped foot out of their own half at Anfield, as Allardyce’s ‘park the bus’ tactics came into full effect.

But, as outlined above, whilst the balance of the clash was not accurately portrayed by the number of goals notched by Liverpool, it was instead laid bare for all to see by another remarkable statistic.

As revealed at the interval this evening, Jordan Henderson managed to complete 37 more passes than the entire West Brom starting XI over the course of the first-half at Anfield:
