Mbappe to return for PSG / Bans confuse Tuchel

Bamboozling bans

PSG’s explosive start to the new Ligue 1 season has been one to forget.

Two losses in the opening two fixtures which included 3 Parisian players seeing red. Neymar, Paredes and Kurzawa have all received suspensions for their involvement and subsequent marching orders from Le Classique.

Kurzawa was given a 6-match suspension whilst Neymar and Paredes received two. The latter of which has bemused PSG coach Thomas Tuchel.

“It’s better if I don’t say what I think because I want to be on the pitch for the next game,” he said.

“I have never seen a player who received two yellow cards [Paredes] then be suspended for two games. I am very surprised, but it happened.”

Tuchel is hopeful that youngster Mitchel Bakker can fill in for the significant absence of Kurzawa and long-term injury of Juan Bernat.

A much needed return

PSG did manage to turn their fortunes around with a 1-0 win against Metz. It took a 93rd minute winner from Julian Draxler but the Parisians earned their first 3 points of the new season.

The game saw Mauro Icardi and Marquinhos return to the line-up following positive COVID-19 tests. Whilst looking slightly better, PSG couldn’t quite find the attacking verve needed for their typically commanding style.

The news that Kylian Mbappe will be available for Tuchel’s side against Nice will be one of great excitement to the fan base.

Mbappe is yet to play this season and PSG will be hoping his arrival will see him continue his electric form from the past year. The Frenchman scored 30 goals in 37 appearances.

Mbappe could play in any of the front three positions. Angel Di Maria, Pablo Sarabia and Icardi started vs Metz, the former Real Madrid wide man the least likely to lose his spot.
