Austria overcome Macedonia
Thanks to goals from Stefan Lainer, Michael Gregoritsch and Marko Arnautovic, Austria were able to over come a scare from the tournament debutants after Goran Pandev equalised in the 28th minute.
Austria are aiming to push aside claims of being ‘overrated’ and ‘unable to do it at a major tournament’ and progress from a difficult group containing the Netherlands and Ukraine.
The Dutch win over Ukraine yesterday means that Austria have a great opportunity to go through should they win one of their final two games.
The runner up in the group will play the winner of Italy’s group containing Wales, Switzerland and Turkey.
However progression should be the target for Austria as they continue to find their way on the top international stage.
Former West Ham United and Stoke City forward Marko Arnautovic scored the 3rd of Austria’s goals and celebrated very strangely.
Shouting something inaudible to the point where Austria captain David Alaba grabbed his mouth to keep him from shouting.

However, Serbian outlet Informer have claimed that the forward said, “I’m f****** your Albanian mother.”
Link to Informer, Serbia’s most popular daily…Arnautovic said “I’m fucking your Albanian mother.” He used the slang term “sitparsku,” and then simply would not shut up. @UEFA must surely ban him. https://t.co/ax1ckODyZj

Whether there are in fact any repercussions for his actions are yet to be seen and whether what he said can be proven to indeed be the reported words.
Whilst the words are yet to be verified, Arnautovic has come out and apologised for what he knows he said.
Taking to Instagram, the forward said “I AM NOT RACIST” and that he has ‘friends in almost every country.’
