Manchester United waiting until Edinson Cavani returns before making decision on future

An update on Edinson Cavani and his Manchester United future has been provided recently.

Cavani’s Man United stint

Manchester United signed Edison Cavani on a free transfer during the delayed summer window.

The Uruguayan had of course been plying his trade for several years with Ligue 1 powerhouse, PSG.

And despite now being 34, Cavani has proven himself to be a very useful signing for United.

Despite spending much of his first few months at United as an impact sub, Cavani has already scored several key goals for the Manchester outfit.

For example, his two goals and assist against Southampton back in November were of course key for United in coming from behind to win 3-2.

He also scored key goals in their 2-1 win over Fulham and their 3-3 draw with Everton.

Man United waiting to make Cavani decision

However, despite being a solid acquisition to date, Cavani’s Manchester United future beyond the current season remains up in the air.

United signed him to a one-year deal, but do have the option to extend it by a further year, which they are of course yet to do.

But ESPN have now shed some light on the situation, with the report claiming that the Red Devils are keen to wait until Cavani has recovered from injury before deciding his future.

The hitman has missed United’s last three matches in all competitions, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently stated he was hopeful of him returning against Chelsea on Sunday.

It is also claimed by ESPN that both sides have the option to terminate the deal in the summer. However, if Man United chose to do so, they would have to pay Cavani around €2m.

So, given how well he has performed this season, perhaps United are better off keeping him around for another campaign despite his age.
