Fabian Delph’s improved form for Aston Villa has made Manchester City sit up and take notice.
The deposed Barclays Premier League champions are in need of English players to meet European requirements and are looking for those who can play in the middle of the field.
The club’s chief target in that area is Juventus’ French international Paul Pogba but they have also made an informal enquiry about Delph as they look for back up options.

Fabian Delph’s form for Aston Villa last season has attracted the attention of the Manchester City scouts

Delph’s career at Villa Park hit a stumbling block but he managed to fight his way back into the first team
The 25-year-old signed a new four-year deal at Villa Park last February but City have the financial muscle to persuade the midlands club to sell.
Delph’s career stalled for a time at Villa but he was one of the few players who managed to keep his levels relatively high during Paul Lambert’s difficult time at the club.
Now an established international under Roy Hodgson, the former Leeds player came in to his own late last season as Tim Sherwood took the team to the FA Cup final.

France international Paul Pogba has been identified as a key target for City in the summer transfer window
