Man United ‘well placed’ to sign Raphael Varane in 2021/ Deschamps hopeful France form can help Pogba at club level

Varane linked with Man United

Speculation from England on Wednesday has linked Manchester United with a rather high-profile centre-back.

It has been quite clear for some time that the Red Devils needed some fresh legs at the back.

Harry Maguire is a decent player, but his lack of pace can be a real issue when he is not paired with a quick centre-back.

And outside of Maguire, United have very little top quality to choose from. Victor Lindelof is very inconsistent and can put on some horror showings whilst Eric Bailly is quite often sidelined with injuries.

So, news that Man United are reportedly well placed to sign Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane in 2021 will no doubt please the United faithful:

Varane is close to entering the final 18 months of his current Madrid deal and according to the Manchester Evening News, the stopper has recently switched to the Base Soccer agency, with whom United have a productive relationship.

Deschamps on Pogba

Elsewhere on the United front, France boss Didier Deschamps has once again been speaking about Paul Pogba and his situation at United.

Deschamps has already been quite vocal about his midfielder during the current break, stating that Pogba cannot be happy at Old Trafford due to his current playing time.

And following France’s win over Sweden on Tuesday, Deschamps has stated he hopes Pogba’s recent displays for his country can help him back at club level:

“Just see what he was able to do in Portugal and what he did tonight.

“I know him, I know how he works. He has pride and above all he has talent. When you have to defend, he can defend. When he has the opportunity to express himself, he is able to do so.

“Paul is a top-level player and I hope what he did with us will be useful to him when he gets back to his club.”
