Man United reportedly ‘confident’ of Jadon Sancho signing if club secure Champions League football

As per a report from the Mirror, Manchester United believe that they are in a strong position to land Jadon Sancho this summer, as long as the club manage to clinch Champions League football for next season.

Sancho’s meteoric rise

19-year-old winger Sancho proved one of the talking points of European football last season.

The English youngster, who made the move to Borussia Dortmund from Man City in the summer of 2017 for £8 million, built on the potential that he showcased at the Westfalenstadion in 2017/18 with a string of sensational displays over the course of the campaign.

The pace, trickery, eye for goal and creative flair possessed by Sancho have seen him rise from exciting but raw prospect to one of world football’s most highly-regarded starlets.

In total, last season, the blistering wide-man racked up 13 goals and a hefty 19 assists across all competitions.

The current campaign, meanwhile, has seen Sancho’s production reach even more impressive heights.

Despite it only being March, the 11-time capped English international has already notched 17 goals, to go along with 19 assists.

Man United lead race

As such, Sancho’s stellar form in Germany has inevitably seen the teen linked with a potential return to the Premier League.

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been named as expressing a keen interest in the Dortmund starlet.

Recent reports, though, have seen a clear frontrunner emerge in the Sancho sweepstakes.

The outfit in question? Manchester United.

Red Devils reporter Duncan Castles last month suggested on the Transfer Window Podcast that the Old Trafford powerhouse were in the ‘prime position’ of all Premier League clubs to push through a deal for Sancho.

Champions League qualification key

And, as outlined above, the Mirror have today provided an update on United’s pursuit of Sancho.

The English media outlet back the suggestion that the Manchester giants are indeed confident of landing the Englishman this summer.

However, it is also claimed that the Red Devils’ Sancho hopes could hinge on one key factor… Champions League qualification.

As per the Mirror:

‘Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell, United are going all out to get him but PSG are also in the mix.’

‘There is a feeling at Old Trafford, however, that if they get Champions League football they will get their man.’

As things stand, United sit 5th in the Premier League table, 3 points adrift of 4th-placed Chelsea.

However, it is worth remembering that Manchester City’s European ban could yet see the side who 5th finish in the English top-flight handed a Champions League berth for next season.
