Former Manchester United star Roy Keane has revealed his opinion that Thomas Partey will prove to be a fine signing for Arsenal, tipping the African to instill a new element of ‘aggression’ in the Gunners’ midfield.

Partey arrives

The major talking point at the Emirates throughout the transfer window of course surrounded the club’s chase of reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Over the course of the summer, a whole host of midfield stars were linked with a move to north London.

Chief among these, over lengthy stretches, were Lyon’s Houssem Aouar and Atletico Madrid standout Thomas Partey.

In the end, having proven frustrated in their pursuit of the former, Arsenal opted to bring in Ghanaian international Partey, to add some much-needed presence to Mikel Arteta’s midfield ranks.

And the 27-year-old certainly didn’t take long in making his presence felt with the Gunners, bagging Man of the Match honours en route to a Europa League victory over Rapid Wien in his full debut:

‘A good signing’

Partey’s biggest challenge yet, since his arrival in England, though, is undoubtedly set to come this evening.

Arsenal face a trip to Old Trafford in less than an hour’s time, for a Premier League meeting with Manchester United.

The all-action midfielder has been handed another starting berth by Mikel Arteta for the clash, in a new-look Gunners midfield alongside Mohamed Elneny.

And, as outlined above, one man who evidently feels that Partey is set to prove a difference-maker for Arsenal not only this evening, but over the months and years ahead, is Roy Keane.

Speaking ahead of his former side’s meeting with Arteta’s men, ex-United standout Keane highlighted Partey’s ‘physicality’, revealing his opinion that the Ghanaian’s talents will go a long way towards solving Arsenal’s long-standing ‘softness’ in the middle of the park:

‘Arsenal have been lacking aggression for years,’ Keane explained on Sky Sports. ‘There’s still a softness to them. I think he [Partey] will be a good signing for them.’

‘I know he’s only been in the door two minutes but give him a chance. He’s got the physicality in midfield that Arsenal lacked over the last few years.’
