Man City’s Riyad Mahrez hints he is open to PSG switch: ‘You never know’

Mahrez’s Man City stint

Riyad Mahrez joined Manchester City in 2018, for a then club-record fee of £60m.

The Algerian has since endured a rather up and down stint in Manchester.

Mahrez’s first season with City saw him score seven and assist four in the Premier League – a rather average record considering the number of goals Pep Guardiola’s side netted.

However, the winger improved considerably last term, notching 11 league goals, along with 12 assists.

And Mahrez has since netted one and assisted one this time around, with Man City struggling overall.

Mahrez on potential France return

Amid his rather mixed stint with Man City, meanwhile, Mahrez’s future has previously been called into question.

The African has just over three years left on his current deal, but Ligue 1 powerhouse PSG were linked earlier this year.

And now, such links look set to re-emerge again, after Mahrez hinted that he would be open to returning to France.

The former Le Havre standout specifically discussed PSG, first assuring that he remains happy in Manchester, but, significantly, going on to add that ‘you never know’ when it comes to football:

“He’s crazy, but it’s true that I was a supporter of Marseille when I was little.

“Regarding PSG – it’s not relevant because I’m still under contract and I’m fine in Manchester, but Paris is my city. I was born and raised in Paris. You never know.

“I could have gone to play in Marseille [in 2014-15] and I can still play in Marseille.

“You never know in life, you shouldn’t close any door. I didn’t know at the time and I was fine at Leicester but they ruled that I didn’t have the required level [to play there].”
