Tottenham vs Man City

One of the weekend’s marquee Premier League ties sees Pep Guardiola’s men face a trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening.

The clash marks City’s first following the international break, and could prove significant when it comes to the title race.

Spurs will head into the tie sitting 2nd in the Premier League table, after a fine start to the campaign which has seen them go undefeated in the league since the opening weekend.

Manchester City, on the other hand, haven’t looked anywhere close to their imperious best.

Granted, the Sky Blues have only lost once in the Premier League, but they have also drawn three of their seven league outings so far in 2020/21, a record which left them 10th in the table prior to this weekend.

Guardiola on Mourinho’s Tottenham

Ahead of the tie, Pep Guardiola has been heaping the praise on Jose Mourinho’s side, perhaps in order to put some pressure on the hosts this evening.

Tottenham, as mentioned above, headed into the weekend’s action 2nd in the table just one point adrift of table-topping, Leicester.

And with no side clearly head and shoulders above any other in the PL this term, Spurs may well be in with an outside chance of a title challenge this year.

That is certainly something Guardiola appears to believe, stating recently that the Lilywhites have a fantastic squad and are contenders:

“The numbers speak for themselves. They dropped points against West Ham and Newcastle in the last minute – imagine the points if they hadn’t.

“They are contenders. The quality they’ve got is always there. They qualified for the Champions League for four or five years and reached the final.

“They have been a good team since Pochettino took over. It is a fantastic squad.”
