Germany have taken a jovial swipe at England ahead of the European Championship finals with the country’s main airline Lufthansa releasing an advert that pokes fun at their traditional rivals.
Roy Hodgson’s men bloodied the nose of the world champions with a stunning 3-2 comeback victory in March, and that sore night in Berlin is still clearly in the minds of the airline’s advertising department, with Euro 2016 kicking off in just over a month’s time.
In the 45-second clip, two England supporters are seen arriving at the departure lounge of an airport only to learn their flight details have been abruptly changed due to unforeseen circumstances.

German airline Lufthansa have released an advert that mocks traditional rivals England ahead of Euro 2016

The well-dressed England supporter learns that he must fly with Lufthansa due to unforeseen circumstances
‘Flight’s cancelled… they’ve rebooked us on Lufthansa,’ one supporter tells the other – who reacts in a state of fear and bewilderment as he realises he will be ‘flying with the Germans’.
The rather pompous-looking gentleman vividly imagines the flight to contain a boisterous set of passengers, including one man with a French Horn, being served quintessential German food.
The passengers are all dressed in Lederhosen while a cuckoo clock is seen on the wall and a young boy teases the Englishman by showing four fingers – the number of times Germany have won the World Cup.
He awakens from how he perceives a Lufthansa flight to be like only to find the experience is in fact very similar to any other large European airline, with a flight attendant serving him a cold beer.

The advert began with the man looking forward to a peaceful flight but he is soon horrified by the airline switch

But the same boy from his nightmare is still sat behind him holding up four fingers, which may prove the first of many taunts directed towards England supporters from those backing the tournament favourites.
The advert, which shall no doubt go down well with the vast majority of those it is targeting on German soil, finishes with the message: ‘Fly like a world champion,’ something England have not tasted since 1966.
Provided the Three Lions continue to get favourable results from their trips to Germany, England’s loyal travelling supporters won’t mind being taunted over any such stereotypical views – after all, they haven’t tasted defeat at the home of their rivals since 1987.
