Liverpool physio attempts to explain why Reds have had so many injuries this season

Liverpool down to bare bones

It’s fair to say 2020/21 has been something of a nightmare for Liverpool.

A lot of sides have had to deal with the issues brought about by the hectic, Covid-19 hit campaign.

But nobody has had it quite as bad as Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool’s main senior central defenders – Vigil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip – are all out with long-term injuries.

Elsewhere, all of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin, Thiago, James Milner, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Davies, Rhys Williams and Alisson have missed at least one game through injury or Covid-19 this season.

Liverpool physio speaks out

Such a packed injury list has now seemingly seen some fans look to blame the Reds’ medical department for this happening to their side.

And it has even forced, Chris Morgan, a Liverpool physio, to speak out on social media to defend himself:

“Don’t be nasty. Don’t tweet nonsense. Don’t confuse correlation with causation.”

“One person is not a medical/performance dept.

“2 doctors, 4/5 physios, 3 soft tissue therapists, 1 rehab coach, 1 head of recovery, 1 sports scientist, 1 head of fitness, 3 fitness and conditioners, 1 head of nutrition, 1 Psych(iatrist), 1 radiologist. 2 (of them) just happen to run on the pitch.”

Morgan was also asked by a Twitter user why Liverpool are ‘getting a lot more injuries than other teams in the league’, to which he responded:

“It’s complex and multi factorial mate…the ones we can’t prevent (and we’ve had lots) then impact the ability to try to prevent others..we still have to put 11 players on the pitch every 3-4 days after all..”
