Keita facing fresh injury concerns after Brighton draw

Liverpool fell further behind in the early title race dog fight in the Premier League today after drawing 2-2 at Anfield with Graham Potter’s Brighton and could be made to pay further after Guinean star Naby Keita picked up an injury.

The Reds now sit three points behind table-topping Chelsea – who dispatched Newcastle with ease at St. James’ Park by a 3-0 scoreline – after a frustrating share of the spoils at home that saw Liverpool surrender an early two-goal cushion.

Klopp was full of praise for Potter who has guided the Seagulls to sixth after ten matches this term, but was also the bearer of bad news regarding Keita after the former RB Leipzig standout was removed on 20-minutes and replaced by former Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The German headmaster provided little details about the situation surrounding Keita, but did unfortunately unveil that his issue seemed to be a hamstring problem.

A stint marred by injury

There is no doubting the level of talent that Naby Keita possesses, but talent means little if it struggles to be fit and available to be called upon.

Since his move from the Bundesliga in the summer of 2018, Keita has missed over 50-matches through injury and has failed to truly make his mark at Anfield because of it.

At current, Keita has featured prominently for Liverpool this season, making seven appearances in the Premier League in 2021-22, with five of them seeing him feature in the starting XI.

The Guinean has also started two of the Reds’ three Champions League group stage fixtures, and this potential injury set back comes during a period where he may well have been on the cusp of stacking a claim as a key asset for the duration of the campaign.
