Leicester hammer Sheffield United

Leicester City played host to Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

The Foxes headed into the tie no doubt keen to gain some ground on their Champions League rivals.

4th-place Chelsea would drop two points against Leeds on Saturday. Elsewhere, 3rd-place Manchester United and 5th-place West Ham are due to face off on Sunday evening, meaning at least one of those sides isn’t picking up a win this weekend.

So, Brendan Rodgers and co. will have been well aware that a win against the Blades would be a huge boost for their Champions League hopes.

And, when all was said and done at the King Power, pick up a victory is exactly what Leicester managed.

Kelechi Iheanacho would fire Brendan Rodgers’s side into the lead 39 minutes in, guiding the ball into an empty net after a cut-back from Jamie Vardy:

The second 45 then saw the floodgates open as Leicester put another four goals past Sheffield United.

Iheanacho would add another two in the second half to complete his hat-trick, with an Ayoze Perez strike and an own goal completing the scoring for the day.

Jamie Vardy continues to shine

Following the tie, a rather impressive Jamie Vardy stat has come to light.

The hitman didn’t actually score himself on Sunday, but he would set up Iheanacho twice and cause the Sheffield United own goal.

And after his first assist of the day on Sunday, it was revealed that Vardy is only the sixth player in Premier League history to register 100 goal involvements after turning 30, join a historic club that includes players such as Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer:
