Jose Mourinho sacked

After news of the European Super League engulfed the footballing world on Sunday, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham sacking went somewhat under the radar.

The Portuguese was relieved of his duties on Monday, less than a week before Spurs are set to face Manchester City in the League Cup final.

The sacking means that Spurs now represent the first side with whom Mourinho has failed to win a single trophy.

Ryan Mason has since taken temporary charge of the Lilywhites until the end of the season.

Rodgers speaks on Tottenham

In all likelihood, Spurs will then appoint a more experienced figure ahead of next season.

Julian Nagelsmann is said to be of interest to the north London outfit, though Bayern Munich are also believed to be keen on the RB Leipzig boss.

Elsewhere, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has too been tipped as a potential target.

However, when drawn on such links on Tuesday, the Northern Irishman insisted that his focus remains on Leicester:

“It’s football, there is always speculation around, every job which comes up there will always be different managers speculated to go in.

“Tottenham is a fantastic club, it’s a huge club but my focus is here. I’m at a world-class training facility, the project we’re in here we still want to develop and have a lot of work to do.

“I have a great connection with the players, the board and we have plans to keep progressing.

“While I have the energy, the happiness and see that challenge continuing I’m very happy to be here. You can’t stop gossip but I don’t think about it.”
