With another summer transfer window now open, the future of Philippe Coutinho has once again become a talking point.

Barcelona & Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona’s debt has been well documented, and it was reported earlier this year that the Brazilian could be one of the players moved on from the Camp Nou this summer to help ease their financial woes.

Coutinho would originally join Barcelona from Liverpool in January of 2018 for a sum believed to be over £100m.

The Brazilian would be brought in seemingly using the money the Blaugrana earned after they sold Neymar to PSG.

However, Coutinho, and the other attackers brought in since Neymar’s departure, have not really come anywhere close to replacing the winger.

After a fairly underwhelming first full seaosn in Catalonia, Coutinho was loaned to FC Bayern Munich for the 2019/20 campaign.

Coutinho actually had an ok stint in Germany, but Bayern opted against making his move a permanent one.

This once again saw Coutinho back at Barca for the 2020/21 campaign. And the forward would actually have an ok start to the seaosn, scoring one and assisting two in his first three league games. However, he then ruptured his outer meniscus in January and has been sidelined since.

Coutinho to Leicester?

Now though, Barca look to be aiming to move the ex-Liverpool man on once again.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Coutinho is one of the names who could potentially depart the Camp Nou this summer.

The Spanish outlet add that Leicester City are following Coutinho, with some talk of a potential €20m bid.

It is added that Barcelona would welcome the departure of Coutinho to help reduce the wage bill.

And though not mentioned in this report, it is worth noting that Barca would need to pay Liverpool €20m if Coutinho plays another 10 games for them, which could be a factor in the Spanish club’s desire to sell him.
