Leicester City approach former Arsenal target Orkun Kokcu about possible loan deal with purchase option

Feyenoord attacking midfielder Orkun Kokcu has drawn interest from Leicester City as Brendan Rodgers hopes for reinforcement.

Rodgers open to signings

Leicester City are having an unbelievably positive season this year and look to be challenging for the title sitting just behind Manchester City and Manchester United in the table.

Brendan Rodgers has seen some excellent transfer business conducted by the club over the last couple seasons with the likes of Youri Tielemans join the club from Monaco, Dennis Praet arrive from Sampdoria and Timothy Castagne move from Atalanta. However, Rodgers has been keen to add more attacking bite to his midfield this January.

“For a period of time, we’ve known the type we would want,” Rodgers said. “We’ve had a few players on the list. We have a number of targets, but it’s just about the availability of those at this stage of the season.”

“Whether we get one in or not, I’m not sure. I would love to get another attacking midfield player because that would also allow one or two of our boys to get out and get playing, but if we don’t, there will be nothing that the club haven’t done.”

“If we can get someone in, great, if not, we’ll just have to wait until the summer.”

By securing Champions League qualification by the end of the season it could add to Leicester City’s chances of signing some even more established quality talent in the summer window. Rodgers will be more than aware of this as they push towards a strong finish after moving past the half way point.

Leicester target Kokcu

One such player that they are reportedly targeting is that of Feyenoord’s Orkun Kokcu. The now senior Turkish international was linked with a summer move to Arsenal in the previous window but he ended up signing a new contract with the Dutch side until 2025.

The 20-year-old has risen through the ranks at the Dutch club becoming a regular in the first team and recorded 3 goals and 6 assists in his 35 appearances last season. He has so far failed to score in the Eredivisie this season but did notch in Feyenoord’s Europa League group stage matches.

Leicester would see him join and add competition to the likes of Harvey Barnes and James Maddison who have both had stellar seasons for the Foxes.

But with an extensive contract at the club, Feyenoord will not allow him to leave cheaply and Leicester’s proposed loan with option was knocked back with the Dutch side only interested in a permanent deal.
